We had met each other for the first time in Gainesville. So this gator nation was our hometown with lots of memories. And as a result, was the only place we could have our big day. Initially, we thought of having our wedding in June but due to both side parents coming from abroad, we thought its better to go for July.
All of a sudden, a thought came to mind. How about we have our life's biggest day on July 4. This had couple of reasons
- Firstly, as you all know July 4 is the Independence Day of United States and we are from different countries. So losing our independence on this day would be perfect :)
- Secondly, its a state holiday and we get to legally take off on our anniversary every year
What an awesome idea!!!!!!!!!. As we decided on this, we realized that it was less than 3 months remaining. So many things to take care of - right from selecting wedding gowns and apparels to designing invitations. We also thought of mixing different cultures and incorporating Chinese, Indian and American styles. Though we had a lot of ideas trying to be very creative, putting it all into one place was a big challenge.
According to me, bride takes the biggest part of the job - about 90% in the wedding planning and groom is the rest (most of the time, he can just show up. hehe). I just did that. The only excuse I had was since me being in Richmond, its hard for me to plan......What a mind boggling excuse!!!!!. But as a result, I met my goal of letting my sweet and cute wife getting the wedding she dreams.
What else can a bride want in her life.....The sweetest thing.
She did everything from decorating cookies, to invitation and place cards, to allowing me to bribe the bridesmaids. Her friends and family were tremendous help and thanks to all of them who made our dream come true - A perfect wedding.
July 3 was the Indian wedding day where we had a priest doing the rituals and we had a mix of Indian, Chinese and American guests. We were dressed in Indian clothes with the shararas, the saris and kurthas and it was so colorful. The rehearsal dinner was held at Stacy's house as we didn't have enough chairs in our place, and we want a place where we can offer both Chinese and Indian food to our guests :) . Thanks to our dear friend Stacy, we all had a great time.
The food was great from the indian dal rice tadka, curry chicken and navratan korma to chinese noodles, fried rice and chicken. An added component to that was the 50% alcohol chinese traditional liquor - the best of the best - wonderful wedding gift from our dear friend, Peng.
All in all, it was an awesome day until we realized it was past midnight and we had to get up early next morning for my traditional Chinese bride pick-up...
